What Entrepreneurs can Learn from Fighters

Your ears are vibrating from the crowd’s cheers and then suddenly, a right hook hits you in the face. Should’ve ducked. You recover quickly, and can see the uppercut coming at you. You dodge to the left to catch your opponent off-guard with a jab from the side. The sweat pours down your forehead, the adrenaline pumps through your veins, and your body is poised for the next attack.

Entrepreneurs can learn a lot from a fighter. Here are a couple of things that they can pick up:

1.    Dedication. When you’re a fighter training for a fight or a tournament, you have to be dedicated. For every training session, you have to show up ready to work. You have to show up even when you don’t want to show up. A fighter is dedicated through training, as well as through the actual fight. It’s the difference between someone who wins and someone who has trained more. As a fighter, you need goals, and you need to be ready to do anything to achieve them. Apply this same concept to your startup. You may not have a singular fight that you’re working towards, but you should utilize a training schedule everyday, trying your best to further your idea. Your dedication will help you during the hard times, especially the times when you feel weak. The dedication that you bring with you as an entrepreneur will stand the test of time.

2.     Eating right. One thing that we all do three times a day, at the minimum, is eat. Do not underestimate the effect of poor eating on you and your business. As a fighter, you must be conscious of what you’re putting in your body because food is fuel for fighting and training. As an entrepreneur, you have multiple fights, multiple trainings, and you need to make sure that you have the energy in order to be your best. Do not eat high-fat foods. Stay away from sugar. Stay away from carbohydrates. Eat three times a day. Eat healthy. Drink lots of water. Count your calories. Understand what a calorie is. Understand the difference between saturated fat and regular fat. Learn. If you are running on high energy, you need the best fuel possible. Be careful of alcohol, and the extra calories it carries. You don’t want to be someone who grows a beer gut. You are what you eat. So eat healthy food, be healthy, and be ready for your fight.

3.     Drinking water. I cannot stress this enough. Try to kick your soda habit. Drink lots of water every day. Water is life. The more water you drink, the purer your body will be. There are too many benefits of water to list. Drinking enough water increases stamina, sharpens thought, and prevents headaches and migraines. Seriously consider increasing your daily intake of water. It will help you like it helps a fighter. Fighters drink water, not soda. They stay away from alcohol. They want to be on their game because they want to win the match. Do you want to win your match?
