Welzoo Shares Advice, Challenges, and Victories
Welzoo offers a way for users to support their favorite charities and causes by monetizing and donating ad revenue.
1) Largest Challenge you've had while running your company
Finding the right people to work with. It's easy to find people; it's not as easy to find quality people. Everyone "loves the idea" and wants to "take it to the next level" with you - but few are fit for the task. Building a team is about putting all the pieces together, and sometimes, the toughest part is realizing that what you need are people who are NOT like you.
2) Sweetest Victory
Raising a successful seed round. It took some time and networking, but we finally closed on an investment when it was time to make this a reality. That was rewarding - especially because it meant that someone outside the company believed in us to the point of taking a tremendous risk.
3) Best Mentor
Fred Ferber, President of Ferber Midwest. Never have we met a greater teacher. Mr. Ferber is a genius in business, primarily because he is a genius in people. The advice we've picked up from him along the way, in all areas, cannot be valued. He leads by example, and we're proud and humbled to call him our mentor.
4) Best Piece of Advice
Trust yourself - let the haters hate. Everyone thinks they know better than you. That must be why they're in the industry! Oh...but they're not. Sure, constructive feedback is CRUCIAL. But sometimes, a founder has to know when to go with his/her gut and respectfully disagree with the conflicting outside opinion.
5) Coolest person you met at TechDay
Moshe Hecht, Partner at Charidy.com. This man is a legend in the industry. We've had the privilege of maintaining a relationship with him since the event; his many creative ideas have already begun to benefit Welzoo.
