RenewU Founder Story
It all started one late evening when co founder Kim Klafczynski was on a business trip in Alexandria, Virginia. She was in need of a workout and every gym was closed. Settling with room service, all she really wanted was someone to come work her out before she crashed for the evening. She used uber to get to and from the airport, so why not be able to request a trainer wherever she is? The idea for RenewU sparked and the inspiration followed.
With a B.S. in nutritional biochemistry and an M.S. in exercise physiology, Kim spent years working with corporate wellness programs, counseling on obesity, and motivating transformation through creating practicality in fitness and health for everyday people. One of Kim’s big dreams it to eliminate obesity in the United States and she continually runs into the same roadblocks with working out: there’s not enough time, it’s too expensive, and people feeling uncomfortable at a gym or in a group setting. She aimed to address all those challenges with RenewU by creating accessibility around fitness.
Excited by Kim’s idea, Tom saw the potential it had for fitness professionals. As a long time trainer and number one salesman for a big name gym, he saw the challenges and struggles for trainers to build a business and make a living. Overhead costs take more than half their paycheck, not to mention the time it takes to “climb the ranks” within a gym or studio. He realized that this idea could provide a platform for trainers to be their own boss, get the “class times” they want, and earn what they deserve.
Kim and Tom came together to create the first fitness platform that offers convenience and affordability, while also supporting the fitness professionals in the community. Whether you’re working 12 hour days or a mom of three, we know how challenging it can be to sneak in a workout. RenewU takes the planning out of your workouts by being purely On Demand- allowing you to book when you want, where you want. There are no binding contracts or monthly payments on top of your training sessions.
Having launched in Los Angeles in May, RenewU’s goal is to be in every major city by the end of 2016 and to be a staple in your fitness regime.
