It's A Wrap! LA TechDay 2015
Thank you all for being a part of the very first LA TechDay. TechDay is a small team focused on building massive startup events with purpose around the world- and we have been in love with the LA startup scene for a very long time. We treasured the opportunity to serve this community by providing a high quality event where people could meaningfully connect to resources they need. The ecosystem continued to elevate itself at our show and beyond, and we believe our relationship with this city is only in the early innings.

Last week began with a TechDay Founder’s Panel at General Assembly in Downtown LA on Monday evening. We were thrilled to have a packed room and hear some tips, best practices, and stories about the ups and downs of being a startup founder in Los Angeles. The excitement for LA TechDay was already in the air Monday as the community building began with people connecting and learning.
The following night, we hosted the official pre-party event at Cross Campus in Santa Monica. There, TechDay startups were able to meet their neighbors, investors and Cross Campus members in an informal happy hour setting as Steph Curry & The Warriors won their title on the big screen. The team at TechDay was also really excited to finally meet some of the startups we’ve been talking to for months and help them learn a bit more about what they were in for on TechDay.
Thursday, the main event, did not disappoint. The California Market Center was flooded with attendees visiting startup booths from start to finish. Sponsors like WeWork and LA Downtown Center BID offered attendees to relax and chat with friends new and old. Our exhibitors overwhelmed the show with their exciting projects and in the crowd you could find Oculus Rift, pampered dogs, folks getting messages, to bitcoin and beyond. We hosted startups from places like NYC, New Mexico, Santa Barbara, San Diego and of course all over the Los Angeles area side by side. We even had surprise visits from ABC’s Shark Tank TV series and Business Rockstars, a local Santa Monica producer of entrepreneurial content whose audience includes over one Million listeners.
An event like this could not exist without the local community and the amazing organizations that prop it up and support innovation in such a vital way. The accelerators, incubators, co-working spaces, Universities (Especially UC Irvine & its Blackstone Launchpad Program, Angels, VC’s, LA Chamber (Bixel Exchange), Santa Monica Chamber, LA Mayor’s office, local newsletters (TechZulu), podcasts (We Are LA Tech), tech blogs and our friends in the community made everything come together and we are so honored to have worked with them.
Finally, we can not say enough about the sponsors of LA TechDay. Perhaps at a typical event, sponsors sit back with their arms crossed and gaze at the show passively. Not at our events. Each member of our team saw all of the sponsors engaging the crowd on their feet all day with the same passion as the startup founders. They’re doing their part to help nurture the startup ecosystem in all of our markets and we’re working very closely with them to find new and interesting ways to help the startups on the floor. Thank you to all our sponsors!
That’s it from us for LA TechDay 2015. We look forward to seeing you over the next few months. Remember, the #LATechDay hashtag is still going with plenty of stories, articles and conversations from the show.
