How Much Your Favorite Childhood Electronics Cost Now

People love living in the past, especially in regards to products that aren’t really around as much anymore. Here is a list of five old tech/electronic products that are much, much cheaper than they were when they initially were released. If you are as nostalgic about your childhood as I am with mine, then you should definitely look into buying or re-buying these products.

Nintendo 64 - Nintendo 64 was an absolute staple growing up. Mario Kart, Ken Griffey Baseball, Zelda, and any of the plethora of awesome games that the Nintendo 64 had to offer, were big parts of many childhoods. It completely dominated the late 90s/early 2000s. But I’m sure at this point, almost 20 years after the initial release, many of you probably sold, gave away, or just don’t know what happened to that console you so dearly loved. Here’s the thing you may not realize though, a ton of people are selling them now on Ebay, Amazon and many other sites. And they aren’t that expensive. On Amazon, you can buy a used Nintendo 64 for anywhere from $40-$60. For just $40-$60 you can relive those glory days of racing at Bowser’s Castle or the adrenaline rush of walking into a room in Golden Eye 007.

Sony Discman - Before iPods were a thing, people used discmans to listen to music on the go. The discman, which first hit the market in 1984, was a necessity for any long car or airplane ride. Now that iPods have taken over, Discmans are just a thing of the past. I very very rarely see someone with a discman, but when I do, I immediately am envious. I would love to be strolling down the streets, holding a discman, all while listening to “Now That’s What I Call Music! Volume 6” (unquestionably the best edition). On Ebay, you can buy a Discman for anywhere from $10-$30.

VideoNow - We are in what is considered the “golden age of television.” From streaming services producing great original content to lesser known cable stations matching that quality, you can watch great TV through many different mediums. In 2003, one of those mediums included VideoNow, a small screen that would hold discs containing 30 minutes of television. The majority of those discs were children’s TV shows, specifically Nickelodeon shows. If you ever have the craving to watch Spongebob or Jimmy Neutron on a small screen, you can get one of these old school video players for just $40-$55 on Amazon.

Original iPod - Before there were iPods of the shuffle, mini or touch variety, there were just iPods. In 2001, when the original iPod was released, the idea of “1,000 songs in your pocket” was astonishing. As time went on iPods got more and more advanced and thus, more and more expensive now. Nowadays, an iPod touch (the newest model) goes for around $150 on Ebay while you get a 5th generation iPod classic for around $45-$55. Only 1,000 songs in your pocket may not seem like a lot anymore; but for just $50, it’s definitely worth it.

Game Boy Color - Game Boys revolutionized video games. Because it was portable, you could go anywhere from a movie theater to a supermarket to a baseball game and I guarantee you would see a myriad of children on their Game Boys. The ability to play Pokemon or Backyard Baseball or Mortal Combat anywhere and everywhere changed the way we played and looked at video games. For just $20-$30 on Amazon you can play these games and any point of the day.

Whether it’s for nostalgia purposes or just because you want to have fun for cheap, these 5 products are an absolute steal. You can relive your childhood for anywhere from $20-$60 with products that went for, in some cases, quadruple the cost when they first were released.
