Software to Retail Startup and Back: Confessions of a 15 Year Founder
1:30 pm - 1:45 pm
Ami Arad started his career in software during the peak of the late 90’s dot-com boom. Ami’s first company was acquired for $280M, and the second went public with a multi-billion dollar market cap. When boom turned to bust, he decided to follow a personal passion and redefine the traditional men’s store. One unfortunate decision and two kids later (the kids are NOT the unfortunate decision!), Ami decided to return to the software salt mines at Oracle Netsuite with many valuable lessons learned.
Ami Arad worked in enterprise software sales before going out to pursue his dream of revolutionizing the traditional men’s store. Wingtip started online in 2004, added a retail location in 2008, and an innovative private social club in 2010, combining clothing, accessories, a barbershop, cigars, wine & spirits, and more. At its peak, Wingtip had $10M in annual revenue and over 60 employees in a flagship location in San Francisco’s Financial District. Through tales of real estate deals gone wrong, Board drama, and starting his family, Ami will chronicle the highs and lows as an entrepreneur with valuable lessons for a startup founder or corporate employee in any industry.
