EyeC is a simple piece of webcam software with security and home monitoring applications. Upon detecting a face, EyeC sends a photo to the user’s phone via MMS. If one installs a webcam on a front door and runs EyeC on a computer connected to the webcam, EyeC will detect any visitor’s face and snap a photo. The user receives a text message with the captured image. Using Facebook’s facial recognition technology, EyeC determines whether the captured face is a friend of the user on Facebook, allowing the user to ignore certain individuals on his or her friend list. When compared to proprietary security solutions, EyeC is simpler and often less expensive, as it makes use of available and unused computers and webcams.
